Melancholia Leads European Film Awards

Kirsten Dunst's new movie Melancholia is set to be a major contender at the upcoming European Film Awards after landing a massive nine nominations.

The Spider-Man star plays a woman battling depression in the Lars von Trier film and the role has scored her a nod in the Best European Actress category at the European Film Academy prize-giving.



She will compete alongside her Melancholia co-star Charlotte Gainsbourgfor the trophy, as well as Tilda Swinton for her role in We Need To TalkAbout Kevin.

Von Trier also landed a nod in the Best European Director category, while the film will also compete for Best European Film, among others.

The awards will be handed out on 3 December (11) in Berlin, Germany.
