Brangelina visit Japan to promote 'Moneyball'
"You are bringing everything forward to rebuilding and reclaiming the lives for yourselves and for others. It's valued and inspiring to us," Pitt told a news conference ahead of the Japan release of his new movie "Moneyball."
"Your tenacity and perseverance and survival has a great effect on us, to the world community, and I applaud you all for that," he said.
Pitt's visit to Japan, together with Jolie and their six children comes nearly eight months after a 9.0 magnitude earthquake triggered a devastating tsunami that left 20,000 dead or missing, while sparking the worst nuclear crisis since Chernobyl 25 years ago.
The global community is "greatly and painfully aware of the cataclysmic catastrophe," Pitt said. "Our hearts and thoughts are still with you who have been touched by this event."
In the film directed by Bennett Miller, Pitt plays the Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane who turns to a statistician with a radical new system to evaluate players and put together a competitive team at a quarter of the cost.
Baseball is hugely popular in Japan both as a professional sport and among children, and the nation has exported stars to US Major League Baseball such as Ichiro Suzuki of the Mariners and Hideki Matsui of the Oakland A's.

Rooney Mara: Motorcycles are scary
The 26-year-old actress plays Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The gritty film sees Rooney’s character getting pierced, raped and nude quite frequently.
Although Rooney was prepared to get down and dirty, she admits that riding a motorbike was a frightening prospect.
“The motorcycle was the thing I really didn’t want to do. You know, you’re going to be raped, be naked… But as soon as [director David Fincher] was like, ‘You’re going to have to ride a motorcycle,’ I was like, ‘Oh, really?’” Rooney told Entertainment Weekly.
Rooney had to transform her physical appearance for the role. Her long locks were cut off, but the actress was happy to forfeit her hair.
"I didn't freak out at all [about chopping my hair off]. Because at that point, I'd already been sort of in the part, like researching it, for two months, so to me the hair was weighing me down. I wanted to get rid of it. They were going to wait longer. I was like: 'You just need to do it!'"
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will be released in the US on December 21.

Miley Cyrus Is Dracula's Daughter
The film is all about the famous count (Adam Sandler) running a resort for famous monsters, away from the prying eyes and burning torches of the normal world. Dracula is fiercely protective of his little girl Mavis, whose adventurous spirit he fears will take her away from him. But he then has to deal with Mavis taking a shine to an "ordinary guy" who stumbles into the hotel. Melancholia Leads European Film Awards
The Spider-Man star plays a woman battling depression in the Lars von Trier film and the role has scored her a nod in the Best European Actress category at the European Film Academy prize-giving.
She will compete alongside her Melancholia co-star Charlotte Gainsbourgfor the trophy, as well as Tilda Swinton for her role in We Need To TalkAbout Kevin.
Von Trier also landed a nod in the Best European Director category, while the film will also compete for Best European Film, among others.
The awards will be handed out on 3 December (11) in Berlin, Germany.

Rose Byrne explains fake accent
The Australian actress continues to be amazed that people struggle to understand her accent. She finds it’s easier to put on another voice for the majority of time, just so she doesn’t have to continually explain herself.
“They always think you’re from England. Even other
actors think you’re English,” she marvelled. “And obviously they can’t understand you over here [America] unless you put the accent on so I just do that; call my phone my ‘cell’. It’s easier, otherwise it takes five hours to get anything done.”
Rose stays true to her native roots in other ways though.
Her favourite singer is still Kylie Minogue and she was delighted to see her in concert recently.
“I still am obsessed with her,” she told the December edition of UK magazine Elle. “I used to love Especially For You. When we were doing promo for Bridesmaids in Melbourne, I took Kristen [Wiig] to see Kylie in concert and we got to meet her afterwards. I was so nervous because she was such a childhood hero. But she was divine. Just divine.”

Kristen Stewart: Marriage is major
The 21-year-old actress plays Bella Swan in the popular vampire franchise.
Bella and Edward Cullen - played by Robert Pattinson - got engaged onscreen in 2010’s third installment The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
Kristen wanted the controversial scene to appear natural.
"Well, to decide you're gonna marry someone at 18 is a pretty hefty decision. And I didn't want to look stupid," Kristen told MTV News.
Kristen was most concerned with how she portrayed the momentous decision from a teenager’s perspective.
The star did not want Bella and Edward’s engagement to be viewed as frivolous.
"I didn't want it to look like kids getting married. You know what I mean? I wanted to be, like, 'Oh! Wow! I would say yes too,'" she explained.
Kristen put a lot of effort into the newest film in the series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.
Shooting the mature sex scenes was a unique experience for the star.
"There are two big sex scenes in the two [final] films, and we did them fairly early,” she recently told the UK edition of Glamour magazine.
"It was so weird; it didn't even feel like we were doing a scene within a Twilight film. I was like, 'Bella! What are you doing? Wow! What is happening here?!' It was very surreal."
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 will be in US theatres on November 18.
