Dr Firdous for political parties to show maturity

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has underlined the need for unity among the political parties to safeguard geo-political fronts of the country.Addressing a gathering after Quran Khawani held for Begum Nusrat Bhutto at Pakistan Television Bureau Sialkot on Sunday, she said, at this critical juncture, political parties should demonstrate maturity and work collectively for the betterment of the country and protection of democracy.Attempts to derail democracy would be detrimental to political stability and will weaken Pakistan, she said.


The minister said, “We are ready to take on board opposition for serving the masses in a better way and work together for making Pakistan a strong country”. She added that attempts to weaken Pakistan through negative activities would not be tolerated.
The PPP believes in democratic norms and wants to resolve all issues democratically and this flexibility should not be construed as weakness of the party, she said.
Dr Fidrous said President Asif Ali Zardari was a symbol of federation and the PPP had strong roots among the masses of all provinces and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
She said the PPP had rendered great scarifies for democracy and would continue its strenuous efforts to strengthen the country democratically for fulfilling the agenda of Shaheed Z.A Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
All conspiracies and attempts to derail the democratic process would be foiled with an active support of the masses, she said and added that opposition could serve the people in a better way while sitting in opposition.
The information minister said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif misused the government machinery and public funds for staging a “Comedy Show” in Lahore, adding that the Chief Minister Punjab should apologize to the nation for negating the constitution and law.
Paying tribute to Begum Nusrat Bhutto, she said that foundation for a free access to information and law was laid by the courageous lady who stood against tyranny of martial law of Zia-ul-Haq.
Dr Firdous added that scarifies of Begum Nusrat Bhutto for restoration of democracy and protection of women’s rights were a source of inspiration for every Pakistani woman.
The PPP leadership was making all out efforts for the protection of rights and empowerment of women in the country because without involving women the national development process was impossible, she added.
Earlier, Quran Khawani was held for Nusrat Bhutto and special prayers were offered for the departed soul and other members of the Bhutto family.Quran Khawani was largely attended by PPP workers. (APP)
