MNA PPP Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor Wednesday said that celebrating democracy day is a positive sign and PPP would always work for strong democracy and betterment of people.
Tolerance, reconciliation and dialogue are most important ingredients of democracy after the February 18 elections last year, he said while talking to PTV in “Good Morning Pakistan”.
The PPP MNA said that on February 18, 2008 people had voted against dictatorship adding that the country would never return to dictatorial rule.
He stressed the need for remembering the great sacrifice rendered by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for the cause of democracy. The PPP leader sacrificed her life for the sake of democracy. Now, it is the responsibility of all political forces to strengthen this democratic system,” he added.
Abdul Ghafoor said that PPP came into power last year it faced a host of problems, however it started sincere efforts to resolve all these amicably.
He said the best way to resolve all the issues is discussion and not confrontation, adding that PPP‑led government was trying its best to resolve all the issues through talks by taking on board all the political forces in this regard.
To a question about Income support programme, he said that PPP’s main focus was the poor masses and it launched Benazir Income Support Programme to distribute Rs 34 billion among four million families, he said.
He expressed hope said that now country is on the road of progress,prosperity and the problems being faced by it would be resolved soon.
About the Swat deal he said it was part of government’s efforts to resolve all issues through dialogue and not by force. (APP)
