'Iron Man 3' to shoot in North Carolina

On Thursday, EUE/Screen Gems co-owner and chief operating officer Chris Cooney revealed that Marvel had officially chosen his studio in the state as the location for the third instalment in the comic book franchise, the Los Angeles Times reports.

"We aggressively pursued this piece of business," Cooney said in a press conference. "We negotiated hard and it paid off."

Meanwhile, EUE/Screen Gems executive president Bill Vassar credited the company's relationship with Disney, which bought Marvel in 2009, for the deal.

"We've been under Disney's radar for a long time," Vassar said. "We have a wonderful relationship with them."

He went on to insist that the studio is an optimal location for the shoot.

"We have a massive film facility and the third-largest film and television-based crew in the country," Vassar added.

Robert Downey Jr will reprise his role as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, for the film. He has said that he is only returning for the third instalment because Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black is involved.

In September, Clark Gregg admitted that he is scared that his character will be killed off in Iron Man 3.
